Your Best Shot! Headshot Workshop with Pepperfox addresses the very real issue of how to relax in front of the camera, how to connect with your photographer and yourself to get those amazing shots you’re after. A lot of actors feel like they “freeze up” once they’re in front of the lens and it shows in their headshots, giving them less freedom, spontaneity, and real emotions in their shots. Ultimately it gives them less to choose from, less choices to present to agents and casting which can keep bookings and auditions away.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

We invite you to . . .

Learn that superpower of being comfortable in front of the camera! At our Your Best Shot! Workshop you will be coached by top-notch headshot photographer Bre Welsh of Pepperfox and get the secrets she wishes ever actor knew before they came in for a shoot.  How to relax, how to take charge of your energy, letting go of your nerves and letting your poses flow putting you in your best possible light. She will be assisted by Julie-Anne Liechty, renowned acting trainer, founder of Actors in Action Conservatory and movement expert. You will learn things you never knew you needed to know, things that will open you up not just for headshots, but for your acting in general, auditions and bookings! There will also be a drawing* for several mini-headshot sessions with Bre at the workshop itself. See below for details.

Great headshots are about great moments. Casting directors and agents are looking for shots that move them, that capture the essence of who you are, that spark their imagination and help them see your versatility and vulnerability. If you’re lacking confidence, uncomfortable, and feel shut down in front of the camera, sadly that’s not going to be how your headshot story ends.

So let us help you get Your Best Shot!

Workshop Itinerary

  • Meet and Greet: Bre from Pepperfox and Julie-Anne will briefly introduce themselves and answer any preliminary questions you may have.
  • Discussion: What makes a fantastic headshot and how relaxation, body ease and flow of movement will boost your confidence, get you emotionally connected and bring out your best shots.
  • Coaching and Exploration: In this practical session of the workshop, we will be on our feet exploring body movement and flow using the highly effective techniques of both Laban’s Effort Shape and Lessac Kinesensics Work. You’ll get tips and tricks to enliven your body, connect to your emotions and bring out your best work – that will not only put a spark in your headshots but help you in anything related to your acting including auditions and being on set when you book!
  • Music and Connection: Continuing in the mode of exploration we will next implement the use of music, discovering its power in influencing mood, confidence and connection to emotions and physicality and how you can apply that to your headshots – and any other aspect of your acting.
  • Headshot Session: Bre and Julie-Anne will demonstrate the actor and the photographer working together in a brief headshot session giving you a direct insight into what the photographer needs from an actor, what the actor can bring to the table and how to make that happen – implementing everything that has been discussed and explored earlier in the workshop.
  • Mini-Sessions of Headshots: Several actors selected from a drawing* will be coached through a mini headshot session, applying what they have learned from the workshop.
  • Q&A: Participants’ questions are answered as the wrap up of the workshop.

The workshop it $79 dollars if you are attending in-person and DO NOT want to enter the drawing for the mini headshot sessions with Pepperfox.

Wait, you mentioned a Free Headshot session?

There will be a chance to work directly with Bre from Pepperfox if you opt for the In-Person Mini Headshot Drawing at the workshop, yes. That is an additional charge of $20 bucks (total $99). We will probably have time to work with three or so actors for the mini sessions, so not everyone that enters the drawing will be picked. But no matter what option you choose you will learn so much from being at the workshop, participating in the exercises, watching the demonstrations, and hearing the mountain of experience Bre and Julie-Anne have to share.

Julie-Anne Liechty, Founder of Actors In Action Conservatory:

“I’ve wanted to do a workshop like this for a long time. I see quite a few headshots from my students or other actors wanting help picking the best shots, and honestly what I see a lot of is actors stuck in the same poses for most of their shoot. Sometimes they’ll be in a whole different outfit but be standing in the exact same position as their last change of clothes. It’s almost as if they don’t know they have other options.

“Feeling comfortable in front of the camera starts with feeling comfortable in your skin, which has everything to do with relaxation, feeling a connection to your body and emotions and being in a state of “flow”.  In this workshop we will explore exercises and tools that effortlessly break down barriers which keep actors in lockdown, giving them the freedom to feel and move and be in their impulses. These tips will make you so much more comfortable in front of the camera, helping you to find your best angles and presenting yourself in your best light. This will help tremendously with translating the shots you’re looking for into reality. Not to mention it will be dynamite for your acting in general.

“I’ve been a big fan of Pepperfox for a long while. I feel Bre is super talented and felt like she’d be the perfect person to do this workshop with. When I went and shot with her, we totally hit it off. I already knew what a skilled photographer she was but at our shoot I saw clearly her gift for working with actors and bringing out their best. We talked about how we might help the actors around us get their best shots and quickly agreed a headshot workshop geared toward building confidence through relaxation, body connection, and flow would benefit everyone.”

"That’s why we’re doing this workshop.”
