Do you ever feel totally shut down and unable to access your emotions when you’re acting? For a lot of actors that can be a big problem. Sometimes we are in the habit of disassociating from our feelings in life and that can boil over to our acting work. Sometimes we just get blocked from a particular feeling we need to delve into. Sometimes we’re just having a bad day, or week, or month and we feel as dry as the Sahara Desert emotionally.

Don’t Want to Look Like an Amateur?

Do you hold yourself back with your acting career because you’re afraid of being wrong or that you’ll make yourself look like an amateur?

That’s a common condition for a lot of actors, in my experience. Even ones who are “established”. But why do we do that? Hold back and don’t try to get an agent or better agent? Creating Traction As An Actor!

How does an ice climber feel a the bottom of a frozen waterfall? Daunted, perhaps? Maybe, but once they clamp on those crampons, they know they’re going to have added traction to get to the top. Steel-toothed feet, how could that not give you confidence? 

Well, if you’re feeling like where you want to go with your acting is a huge, slippery, wall of ice and you just can’t seem to figure out how to climb it—we just need to get you some steel-teeth for your feet.

In Search of Perfect Self-Tape Lighting?

Self-taping your auditions is becoming more and more common for actors. And will probably one day completely eclipse going into the casting office. There are some advantages to that and disadvantages. Meeting one-on-one can be a great way to build relationships with casting directors.
